Procrastination at it's finest-

I was supposed to be working on lining the design I finally settled on for Art Fight.

... I got distracted when a friend shared the background image. Went to doodle on it for the lolz and accidentally got carried away with an animation, LOL. So damn glad SAI can save as .PSD, makes it so much easier to switch it over to gimp to use the animation feature.

Despite the floaty-ness, lowkey kinda proud of this. heh.

June 2020
Program(s): Paint Tool SAI, GIMP

Animation drawn by myself, @sp00k5t3r
Don't use in anyway whatsoever, thanks.

Okay, so this "old people shouldn't be able to vote" is spreading again, as in "they shouln't because they don't have much left to live" and im so tired that this is passed as a legitimage argument

Imagine living in a government, the laws of which apply to you just as much as they do to everyone else, and also being more dependent on societalgovernmental support (since old people can't work, get sick, are more fragile and can be neglected by younger members of their families pretty often), having rights, wants, needs and ideas about how government should work

And have all of them disregared because "well you're gonna die soon lol"

No one has ever suggested terminally ill people don't have the right to vote! Because you don't get to joke about "farting in the elevator" about terminally ill people , however, it's somehow easily done about the old people. Because terminally ill pesron can be young and progressive like you! But every old person is probably as conservative as your racist uncle who you have negative associations with. And i get it, most of us have older members of families we wish to distance ourselves from, so it's hard for us to imagine older people in positive life... but should we really go as far as disregard their rights to vote?

"But we're not stereotyping old people, it's really how situation is, the majority of voters are old and conservative and their votes are ruining our current situation" - well maybe that means there should be a way to get through to them instead of just wishing for their votes to be magically gone based on their age and nothing more!

disclaimer there is nothing inherently wrong with veganism but there is a certain white western vegan culture which has some problems, this post is not abt all vegans

there are many very good posts critiquing white vegan culture but theres something i havent really seen addressed.

like maybe its bc im vegetarian and i look at vegan recipes more but there is a Big Trend of trying to make a meat/dairy substitute that matches the taste of the original but they end up not substituting the nutrients? eg cauliflower steaks, that jackfruit thing. this doesnt happen as much with dairy but definitely with meat products

and like, here's the thing: you need protein. you need fats. your body needs nutrients that it will Not get from vegetables. i understand that for ppl who are used to the 'meat and two veg' meals its a hard change, especially if you, , like meat but like u really do have to restructure ur relationship to food and how you think about it. i get so worried for the health of all those vegan recipe bloggers who seem to just be trying to find taste substitutes for meals they loved and not focusing on like their actual health requirements. and i mean actual health requirements, not fucking diet culture. i honestly think that in a decade or two theres gonna be a massive rise in health problems related to nutrient deficiencies, and it will be because of irresponsible veganism.

yeah west is not really good at having enough steady meat substitutes at all, and im afraid that people are being pressured into eating vegan before they have the time and energy to make research about how to substitute proteins which is crucial for their health. there are already studies about the long-term damages of low-protein diets, the results of which only start being visible within a year or two. that's why i dislike it when people say veganism is easy and quick to switch to. it really depends on your area, your body, your expertise in cooking and food, etc.

This is actually a huge part of why I'm not a vegatarian. Due to the fact I can't eat gluten[and other issues with textures due to autism and some other minor dietary restrictions], a lot of high protein stuff I could eat sadly just has gluten in it, and it makes it extremely hard to get the protein I need. The only real sources of protein I could really eat on my current diet if I removed meat entirely is peanutbutter.. and eggs. Maybe almonds too? but I don't remember how much protein those have and almonds are kind of rough of my teeth because of all my fillings.

Frankly that would be a depressing diet. I do my best to stay away from red meat and the like.. but I could NEVER be vegan without risking my health dramatically because my current main sources of protein [Eggs and Chicken] would be out the window, and a MAJORITY of vegan substitutes have wheat or gluten in them... especially the meat substitutes that actually have enough protein and what not in them.

I think a big thing, especially in America, but I'm sure in a lot of the better off European countries too, is that we often aren't taught what (usually plant) foods need to go together to create "complete proteins", aka, having all the amino acids that your body can't create itself, as well as various trace nutrients like minerals that we need to stay healthy.

So people will make, for example, a soy burger and treat it like a normal burger and eat it with wheat based bread, etc etc, and end up not having enough of certain nutrients when all they'd need to do to correct that is to eat their soy with rice. That's literally it. Rice+soy = a complete protein, just like rice and beans, peanuts and wheat, potatoes and dairy, squash and corn/maize, etc. And a lot of native cultures around the world base their diet around combos like these that form complete proteins, and then they add to their diet on top of that base. And people in these cultures know, if you have very little and you need to fall back on something, you eat these two things together, and it might not be exciting but it's filling and YOU'LL LIVE and you won't get horribly sick from it.

This is also compounded with the fact that outside animal based foods (meat and dairy), B vitamins are pretty scarce and when you do find them it's usually in fungi like yeast and mushrooms. Yeast outside of bread is a new concept for a lot of Westerners, and mushrooms can be an issue for a lot of folks with sensory issues or just.... don't like them? And a lot of people in the US don't have access to cheap meat replacements.

But I mean, even putting aside any issues in getting foods like soy burgers or whatever meat and dairy replacements, a lot of folks just don't know what to eat them with/how to eat them to get the best out of their nutrition. :( And a lot of it is taking things out of their context, which is a form of cultural appropriation and has concequences for the people it's done to (higher prices for staple foods they need to live) as well as the people doing it (as emlynlua mentioned, people can become nutrient deficient and seriously ill over time).

There will come a soldier

This character is 20 years old.

ahem, to clarify... the idea of this character is 20 years old, if not more. he's based on my very first stuffed toy of a siamese cat, and he is the legendary hero of Catland.

His figure is half-mythical, however, he is based on a real historical cat, who played a huge role in establishing Catland as independent country by putting an end to constant attacks from dogs on its northern region. His strategic successes made him noticed by the Queen of Catland herself, who then proposed to marry him, and he agreed. As a king, it is said that he led and won countless battles.

One of the most popular boy names in Catland is a shorter version of his name.

so i decided to draw something not Sailor Moon related for once

and since i'm finishing Wedding Peach, here's Angel Precious Lily! (Yuri Tanima). She's not my favorite Love Angel, but i wanted to go for an easy pose first which would suit her more.

and then i've decided to play around with some ibis paint brushes and voila, here's a background.

I didn't plan to assign a season of the year to her, but autumn actually fits Yuri. That leaves spring for Momoko, summer for Hinagiku and winter for Scarlett, so there might as well be a series.

health update, cw medical

  • had a phone appt with the physio

  • he seemed confused abt my symptoms (always a good sign /s)

  • ive been referred to Other physio ppl who can do video appts

  • on thursday i sent a referral request to the gp to try and get a bone density test bc i suspect i have osteoporosis

  • so far the only response ive had is an email which said
    'Hi [deadname]

I have processed your request for Monday.

    Thank you'

  • so am i gettting a bone density test??? am i not??? will the gp contact me??? who knows

  • i made a Journey on saturday, very bad do not recommend. if i ever think abt getting on a bus again, hit me. or just remind me that buses move around and the only way to kee myself in the seat is using my back muscles, which hurts. also remind me that i can barely breathe in a face mask. also remind me that certain buses currently have a policy of keeping their windows open, even on the coldest july night on record, and this leads to shivering and coldness, which not only is bad bc i struggle to warm up, but also makes my pain worse bc tensing of muscles

  • in good news tho i now have a carry caddy i got off ebay which means i can take my meds and drink from room to room which means ill hopefully consistently take them

  • im now on a 6 week course for vitamin d

  • the dr will do nothing more abt my back until that 6 weeks is up

  • i Dont believe vitamin d is the cause of my back pain, it probably exacerbated and was exacerbated by it

  • i have a phone appointment with the physio tomorrow

  • No idea how thats supposed to work

  • feeling nauseated today hope it doesnt continue

  • got a sexy med reminder app tho its Very useful and i recommend it (its called medisafe)
